P. L. Johnson

The antique bicycle.      A large man on a bicycle, P. L. Johnson was a familiar sight as he peddled around Bishop Hill.  Here he ended his ride by coasting up his specially built bicycle ramp into the door.  P. L., a versatile man, had been a farmer, repair shop owner, a blacksmith, a singer in a quartet, a holder of every office in Bishop Hill, and a correspondent to the Galva Standard.
In this building, P. L. had built the country's best-equipped hardware store, well-stocked with tinware, clocks, silverware, oil, heavy hardware, and assorted everyday items. The gift shop upstairs.
The gift shop.      While you are here, we hope you will enjoy the gift shop's array of hand-crafted items, Swedish jewelry, the Christmas corner, greeting cards, unique gift items and much more.

Walk next door to the colony church, take a free tour and see colony life chronicled in the room exhibits.
